Taverns of Annapolis
Enjoy a visit to Maryland's Capitol just as colonial citizens did 200 years ago. Step back in time as you dine in an 18th century tavern, or an "inn for seafaring men."
Mrs. MacMordie, the tavern mistress, and her indentured wench will meet you at your lodging, or as your coach arrives, and escort you to your dining place. Since you've just lately arrived in the colony, feel free to inquire about the local sights...the State House, the fine mansions, or the social life of town. They'll be delighted to share the current gossip, advise on the selection of a dancing master, instruct you about the newest fashions or the latest shipment of Barbados rum!
Mrs. MacMordie's cook will prepare the choicest victuals for your enjoyment...plantation chicken, fresh fish from the Bay, or a fine serving of beef. The freshest seasonal vegetables, new red potatoes and hearty tavern breads will accompany your selection. The meal will be served tavern-style and complimented by good wine, or hearty beer. No doubt, you'll wish to raise your glasses in a toast to the downfall of the British or the virtues of a good wife! Mrs. MacMordie and her servant will be easily encouraged, with your help, to share their theatrical skills...and they won't be shy about having you join in to help!
As the sweet is served, perhaps a fruit tart or stout pudding, you'll be entertained by a local balladeer. Feel free to join in as he sings about he wonders of wine, the vagaries of romance, or the success of the patriot cause.
Each tavern supper is planned to suit your needs. Please call for prices and menus.
